Nick's Art Discovery
A childhood Spent on Kangaroo Island...
South Australian artist Nick Hannaford is celebrated for his diverse artistic range. Raised on Kangaroo Island, he exhibited his first painting at just 12, and later went on to train under Ruth Tuck, Jo Caddy, and his uncle, artist Robert Hannaford.
A school trip to Melbourne, where he encountered a Claude Monet exhibition, proved pivotal. Monet's expressive brushwork and masterful use of light sparked a lifelong artistic pursuit.
Over four decades, Nick has held numerous joint and solo exhibitions, many selling out, and completed commissioned works for weddings, special occasions, and luxury destinations including Southern Ocean Lodge on Kangaroo Island.
Balancing realism and expressionism, his paintings capture the shifting moods of the South Australian landscape, giving each piece a distinctive sense of place — quiet yet powerful, emotional yet grounded.
Nick's work reflects a lifelong fascination with how light and colour shape our perception, turning familiar scenes into moments of reflection and beauty.
