White caps - Offshore wind, 20 knots
My grandfather used to say - If you could see whitecaps from the shore, it was an indication that fishing was off for the day unless it was an offshore wind. This small whiting ground was not far from the shoreline so you could sneak out and hug the coastline to dodge the wind. Although it was hard to land on this spot, once you did, the size of the Whiting was huge.
